Morayo Awosola is a UK representative in the Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale (OIML), the Secretariat[1] of several (OIML) Technical Committees (TCs) and Subcommittees (SCs), and the convener of Project Groups within these TCs and SCs including: TC 9/SC 2 for Automatic Weighing instruments, TC 7/SC 3 for Measurement of areas, and joint Secretariat with the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL) for TC 8/SC 5 Water Meters.[2][3][4]
Mr Morayo Awosola's professional work focuses on international legal metrology and measurement applications,[5][6] and particularly in the development of OIML International Recommendations and Documents (international metrology standards), in collaboration with OIML Member States on an internationally agreed-upon basis, with the objective of supporting the establishment of national legislation on various categories of measuring instruments. This work enables economies to put in place effective legal metrology infrastructures that are mutually compatible and internationally recognized, for all areas for which governments take responsibility, such as those which facilitate trade, establish mutual confidence and harmonize the level of consumer protection worldwide.
Life and career[edit]
Mr Morayo Awosola grew up in Lagos, Nigeria and was educated at the comprehensive school St. Thomas's Aquinas College in Ondo State, Akure. He returned to London in 1984 and studied at Nottingham Trent Polytechnic (now Nottingham Trent University), where he obtained a second class honours degree in Manufacturing Engineering. He went on to complete a Master's degree MSc in Industrial Measurement Systems at Brunel University. Following this, he worked in various positions in manufacturing and quality control, including several years in production engineering at Sega Manufacturing in London, and five years in compact disc manufacturing and quality control at Docdata Ltd. He currently lives in London where he plays table tennis & football locally and runs several blogs in his spare time.
In January 2010, an article by Mr Morayo Awosola, Integration of Environmental Aspects into OIML Recommendations, was published in the Quarterly Journal of the Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale, OIML BULLETIN VOLUME LI NUMBER 1, JANUARY 2010. In it Mr Morayo Awosola explained how environmental thinking and sustainable development in legal metrology can be integrated in the development of OIML Recommendations in order to influence the environmental impact of the measuring instruments covered by these International Recommendations.
In July 2010, the OIML Bulletin VOLUME LI NUMBER 3 JULY 2010 featured another article by Morayo Awosola on its front page, Working across Cultures in Legal Metrology. In this article he explained the issues associated with working with multi-cultural OIML stakeholders and how to overcome them.
In January 2006, a joint collaboration between Mr Morayo Awosola and Mr Martin Birdseye produced an article titled Basic Requirements for Legal Metrology in Developing Countries, which was published in the OIML Bulletin VOLUME XLVII NUMBER 1 JANUARY 2006. The article focused on the roles of metrology in the economy and considers the choices of what to regulate. It examines the benefits for trade in the context of developing economies and the potential for more general economic and social benefits.
Mr Morayo Awosola's OIML work has helped to promote the importance of international legal metrology as a useful tool in removing technical barriers to trade and promoting the values of technical assistance to developing countries, and to this end he has developed a reputation as a professional metrologist within the international legal metrology andstandardisation forums.

In 2006 Mr Morayo Awosola became a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Corporate Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET).
