Moreetsi Gabang is a Botswana filmmaker, writer, director, and producer known for several short films and for his work promoting Botswana cinema through his production company. His work has received national and international recognition, including an award at the 2023 Durban FilmMart (DFM).[1]

Biography and career

Education and early career

Gabang studied at AFDA Johannesburg, graduating as class valedictorian.[2] He later earned a Master’s degree in film practice from the London College of Communication (University of the Arts London) via a Vice-Chancellor’s Postgraduate International Scholarship.[3]

His short film Motswakwa (Foreigner) was nominated for Best Short Film at the 2019 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).[3]

Filmmaking and studio work

Gabang co-founded Mainane Studios, a film production company aimed at developing high-quality culturally rooted cinema in Botswana.[4] Through the studio, he has produced multiple short film projects intended to position Botswana cinema on regional and international platforms.
