Morgan K Orioha is a Nigerian-British author, engineer, and trade unionist. He has worked in various engineering settings including telecommunication communications, electrical and electronic manufacturing, and testing environments. Morgan is a Pentecostal Christian, who believes in social justice, religious freedom and tolerance.[1] He has written several articles, some of which include Redefining Aids to, and Foreign Policy towards, African Economies, Nigeria’s Geothermal Energy Resource by Morgan K. Orioha, and Attracting Investors to Nigeria’s Power Sector in Support of the Sector’s Reform Programme.[2][3]

Early life and education[edit]

Born on 2nd July 1981 in Umuezukwe, Awo-Omamma in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State,[4] Morgan Kelechukwu Orioha is the fourth son of his parents. His father Mr Michael Orioha died in 2004, leaving behind Ezinne Beatrice Orioha (nee Obi) and other children. Morgan is married to Thelma Ogbejesi, a nurse. Both Engr. Morgan and Mrs Thelma Orioha now have two children. Nonetheless, Morgan attended St Anthony’s Primary School (now Umuezukwe Primary School), Awo-Omamma, one of the schools founded by the early missionaries.[5]To acquire a post-primary education, he later proceeded to Bishop Shanahan Secondary School, Orlu, Imo.[6] Owing to his father’s illness, Morgan received a financial support throughout his educational studies from his brothers, especially from Sir Herbert Orioha. Thus, in 2005, he bagged Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Anambra State University, Nigeria. He received his MSc in Mobile and Satellite Communications from the University of Glamorgan, the UK, in 2008.

Professional certifications and associations[edit]

Morgan has certifications in ITIL and Prince2 for Project Management. He is also a member of the International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE).[7]He is said to promotes energy, trade and environmental policies and economic opportunities favourable to economic growth of developing African countries and those of their foreign allies. He 'advocates for global prosperity driven by, eradication of electricity poverty, and inflow of Foreign Direct Investments into developing - economies, and building of free trade blocs.' Also, as trade unionist, Morgan is with the Communications Workers Union in the UK.[8]

Politics and advocacy[edit]

Morgan is a liberal democrat. He became naturalised in the UK in December 2017. He is currently a member of Conservative Party of the UK. As a student leader, Morgan was Chairman of Faculty of Engineering Students (2002), Political Adviser to Student Union Government (SUG) President (2003), and presidential candidate in the annulled Anambra State University SUG election of 2004. He has served his community, Awo-omamma through, Awo-omamma Development Forum (ADF) - a community development organisation- in various capacities including as Chairman of the Publications and Award Committee, Editor of the Omamma Voice Magazine, and member of the Literature and Culture Promotion Committee. Morgan is a member of the Board of Directors of Forward Thinkers Foundation, a non-profit Nigerian organisation. He has served the organisation as Directors of Communications, and Finance respectively.[9]

Bankruptcy[edit]

Morgan escaped bankruptcy in 2017 through an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA). By 20th April 2017, his IVA proposal was approved by his creditors and the process commenced officially on 30th of April 2017. By 1st of March 2018, his creditors accepted the full and final settlement offer. On 8th March 2018, the full and final settlement offer was paid for closure of the debt management process.[10]
