Official Announcement Trailer

A new Mortal Kombat game was confirmed to be in development for an anticipated 2023 release by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav during a company investors call in February 2023. The acknowledgement of the project at this stage caught series developer NetherRealm Studios by surprise due to their lack of discussion regarding future projects following the release and post-launch support of Mortal Kombat 11 (2019), prompting a response on Twitter by franchise co-creator Ed Boon, who cheekily referenced the unprompted announcement.[1]

The game was first teased through a video posted on social media by Boon and the official accounts related to the series in May 2023.
