On July 26, 2022, a murder-suicide took place in Fairbanks, Alaska, United States. Four members of a family were killed in their home in a familicide.
Shooting[edit]
The shooter was the brother of the three victims, Kiefer Mott. The victims were Mercedes Mott, 17, Ryker Mott, 8, and Miura Mott, 5; after killing them, Kiefer Mott shot himself.[1] The other three children were asleep upstairs.
When two of the kids woke up and heard gunshots, they went downstairs to see their siblings deceased. When the neighbors arrived, they immediately called the police department. The parents, Nathan and Cherrie Mott, were not home during the incident.[2] No motive was identified as to why Kiefer decided to kill his three siblings as trooper DeSpain said "The only person - people - that know what really happened in that moment are deceased".[3]
Aftermath[edit]
The family ultimately forgave Kiefer for what he did and he was buried alongside his siblings.
