Roland Everson (born 1973[1]) is an English climate change protester, better known as Mr Broccoli. He is a member of the Extinction Rebellion offshoot Animal Rebellion.

Identity[edit]

Mr Broccoli is always seen with green face paint and a broccoli floret-style head-dress.[2] He wears silver mirrored aviator sunglasses and a suit with an orange tie.

On 18 October 2019 his identity was revealed as Roland Everson, a carpenter and business owner from Bristol.[3][4] He sets up "glamping villages at around 50 festivals across the UK each year".[5] He read a video statement for the Evening Standard in which he encouraged others to join Extinction Rebellion.[6]

Activism[edit]

Mr Broccoli calls on the public to transition to a plant-based diet. He identifies as a member of Animal Rebellion, an outlet of the larger Extinction Rebellion, who use nonviolent civil disobedience to compel government action towards climate change mitigation.

Mr Broccoli was arrested on Oxford Street in London on 13 October 2019 as part of Extinction Rebellion protests.[7]

He revealed that he was part of a group of climate protesters who bared their buttocks in the House of Commons that April.[citation needed]

On 16 October 2019 Mr Broccoli was invited onto ITV's Good Morning Britain programme. He refused to give any other name besides Mr Broccoli and warned the planet was in "incredibly hot water" as a result of climate change. He was criticised for his lack of evidence and scientific knowledge.[8][9]

On 19 October 2019 he attended an anti-Brexit march in London.[10]
