Dr. Muhammad Imran Ashraf Usmani.[1] (born March 23, 1970) is a Pakistani Islamic scholar economist. He is the founder and chairman of Greens Group of Companies [2], Usmani and Co. (involved in the business of Green ecosystems; The Elet, a hotel; Greens Fin, a Shariah Compliant Fintech provider; and Green EdTech). Presently Dr. Imran Usmani is the Group Head and Vice Chairman of Shariah Supervisory board at Meezan Bank[3].
Early life and Education
Usmani is the eldest son of Muhammad Taqi Usmani.[4] He was born on March 23, 1970, in Karachi. He has completed his Alimiyya (Post-graduation) and Takhassus fil Fiqh wal Ifta (specialization in Fiqh) from Jamia Darul Uloom, Karachi[5] and Wifaqul Madaris Karachi[6]. Apart from religious education he also completed his normal education which includes Matriculation and Intermediate from Board of Secondary and Intermediate Education Karachi. After that, he completed his graduation in Law from SM Law College[7], BA in Economics, Political Science, MA in Arabic and Islamic Studies, M.Phil and PhD in Islamic Economics from University of Karachi[8]
Career
After completing his early education, he has started teaching Fiqh in Jamia Darul Uloom since 1990. Dr Imran Usmani has been involved with the Government of Pakistan in various initiatives and is also a member of the Steering Committee and implementation committee for promotion of Islamic Banking since 2013. He also served as an Executive Committee Member of AAOIFI [30](Dubai), Sharia Supervisory Board of International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM)[31] Bahrain and Chairman of Academic Board at International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF[32]) – Malaysia, Institute of Business Administration (IBA)-Centre for Excellence in Islamic Finance (CEIF), Karachi and Director at Centre for Islamic Economics ( CIE) [33], Hira Foundation School [34] and Hira Institute of Emerging Sciences[35], Karachi.
Dr. Usmani is the author of numerous publications related to Islamic finance and other Sharia related subjects. He has presented papers in numerous national and international seminars and has delivered lectures at academic institutions including Harvard, LSE, LUMS and IBA.
He also has special interest in Entrepreneurship, Eco-system, Sustainable development Investments and works for different green projects.
