Biography[edit]

Early life[2][edit]

Muhammad ul Hussnain Nawaz was born on February 12, 1992 in Nankana Sahib. His father, Muhammad Nawaz, was a retired government headmaster in the education department of Punjab. Husnain Nawaz received his early education at Government M.C High School in Nankana Sahib and later attended Government Postgraduate College in the same area for his intermediate studies after passing his matriculation exams with top grades. He was then offered a scholarship to further his studies at National University of Science and Technology (NUST), one of Pakistan’s leading educational institutions.

Military career[edit]

After graduating from Military College of Signals (MCS) Rawalpindi and completing his Telecommunication Engineering as part of BETE-46 (TCC-21) with Rector's Gold Medal,[3][4] Husnain was commissioned in the 92 EW signal battalion on October 19, 2014.

Martyrdom[5][edit]

On 12th October 2017, Pak-Army rescued a Canadian Family[6] that was held captive by Taliban in Afghanistan.[7][8][9] As a result, the Pak-Afghan Border was on high alert as Taliban were using different methods to harm Pak-Army.

On 15th October 2017, an IED exploded in general area of Kharlachi planted by Taliban resulting in numerous casualties. Capt Husnain Nawaz immediately moved to the IED site to offer possible help. While evacuating causalities, another IED exploded, causing severe injuries to him. He was taken to CMH, Parachinar[10][11] but succumbed to his injuries and was declared a martyr (Urdu: شہید). He was 1st martyr officer from his unit, 92 EW Signal Battalion.

Memorial[edit]

Capt. Husnain Nawaz was buried in a courtyard near main graveyard (Dholar, Nankana Sahib, Punjab, Pakistan) with full military honors.[12] In 2018, federal government posthumously awarded him the Tamgha-e-Basalat (Eng. Lit.: Medal of Good Conduct)[1] in the line of duty at Pak-Afghan Border. Many Political Leaders and high officials of Pakistan also visited his family and gravestone to pay their condolences and salute.[13]

Legacy[edit]

In honor of his sacrifice, the government renamed the institution where he completed his Matriculation to Govt Capt Hussnain Nawaz (M.C) High School, Nankana Sahib,[14][15] and the main road of Nankana Sahib named Railway Road (Urdu: ریلوے روڈ) to Capt Husnain Nawaz Shaheed Road (Urdu: شاہراہ کیپٹن حسنین نواز شہید).[16]
