Hariawala received fellowship certification from The Royal College of Surgeons of England in London. He was then invited to Boston in 1994, where he worked as a fellow in the department of cardiothoracic surgery of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center (Tufts University School of Medicine), and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Harvard Medical School).
