Mulla Behram Akhund (Pashto: ملا بهرام اخوند‎) is an Islamic scholar, activist, and one of the leaders of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). He is also a supporter of the human rights organization Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), which campaigns against enforced disappearances in Pakistan's Balochistan province.[1]

Human rights activism and detentions[edit]

On 28 May 2019, Mulla Behram was arrested by the police in Chaman because of his participation in a PTM protest against the Kharqamar incident.[2][3] After almost five months, he was released from Quetta jail on 18 October 2019.[4] Referring to his time in detention, Mulla Behram said: "[The security and intelligence agencies] tortured us a lot and told me repeatedly to quit PTM so that they can give me concessions."[5]

On 9 February 2020, after PTM's public gathering in Loralai to mark the first death anniversary of Arman Loni, security forces arrested Mulla Behram, Qasim Achakzai, Qayyum Utmankhel, and at least 10 other PTM activists as they were on their way back to their hometowns.[6][7] According to the police, the activists were arrested because they had chanted slogans against the security forces during the Loralai gathering.[8][9]
