Murder of Alex Rodda

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Alex Rodda was a 15-year-old English schoolboy who was found murdered on December 12, 2019. He was beaten with a wrench in the woods of Ashley, Cheshire in northwest England the same day by then 18-year-old Matthew Mason.[1][2][3]

Background

Rodda was a 15-year-old student and Mason was at the time an 18-year-old architectural engineering student.[4]

They had been briefly sexually involved. Mason had paid Rodda £2,200 to keep their relationship secret.[4][2]

Murder

Mason picked Rodda up on the night of the murder and drove with him to the woods.[4] There, Rodda was beaten at least 15 times with a wrench.[2]

Trial and sentence

Throughout the trial Mason claimed he had been acting in self-defence after being blackmailed by Alex, but the jury rejected his claims and he was sentenced to life in prison (with a minimum sentence of 28 years) in 2021.[2]
