Mwakwe Rashid (born 03 October 1995) is a Ugandan businessman, media proprietor and philanthropist.[1] He is the CEO of KipTalk Communications limited, a multimedia company in Uganda mostly known for its digital management activities.[2]

Career

Rashid started out as a social media blogger in Makindye division before joining Muteesa I Royal University[3], where he would later start developing web applications and television streaming software for BBS Terefayina, Kampala in 2016.[4] He later quit BBS Terefayina to start up his own company, KipTalk communications limited, one of Uganda's first ever ICT companies established in Kampala. Courtesy of his success with KipTalk communications, Rashid was contacted by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to neutralize social media usage in the upcoming campaigns of 2021.[5] Mwakwe was appointed to put down social media platforms that preached hate speech which would cause harm to the citizens.[6][7]

In 2021, he was appointed by SK Mbuga to head the digital department of STV Uganda, a media station that was known for covering more of the political matters of Uganda.[8]

Philanthropy

In 2018, Mwakwe started Proshiba foundation as a way to help the less-privileged in Kampala and other regions of Uganda.[9][10] He made different charity events in Karamoja region an area in Northern Uganda hit by drought. Through his organization, Mwakwe has helped many people get off the streets of Kampala and sheltered them to Proshiba foundation homes.[11]

Personal life

Mwakwe Rashid is not married and does not have any children despite rumours that he got married and was divorced before even 1 year of their union.[12]
