Nader Soltanpour (Persian نادر سلطانپور) is an Iranian-Canadian journalist and television news presenter with the BBC World-Persian service.

Education and early career[edit]

Soltanpour studied finance in Montreal, Canada and for 10 years worked in banks and investment firms in Toronto, Canada.

Transition to media industry[edit]

In 1997, while still working in finance, Soltanpour began his journalism career as a producer and presenter of a weekly radio programme called Persian Voice (Persian رادیو صدای پارسی, Radio Sadaye Parsi, lit. "Radio of the Persian Voice") for the Iranian and Afghan communities in Toronto. In 2000, Nader left finance and turned Persian Voice into Canada's first nightly Persian language radio programme. In 2005, he joined the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as a copy writer and producer for The World Report, Canada's most-listened-to morning news programme. Nader joined BBC Persian television in July 2008.[1]

Career highlights[edit]

In March 2012, Soltanpour presented a six-part series to have the Greatest Iranian selected by BBC Persian viewers. They included Zoroaster, Cyrus the Great, Ferdowsi, Ibn Sina, Hafez and Mohammad Mossadegh. Viewers voted Cyrus the Great as the Greatest Iranian.[2]

In November 2013, Soltanpour travelled to South Africa to cover the funeral of Nelson Mandela. He also produced several reports for BBC Persian. [3] [4] [5] [6]

On November 24, 2013, Soltanpour covered live the first agreement between Iran and the world powers p5+1 over Iran's nuclear program. It became known as the Geneva interim agreement on the Iranian nuclear program. [7]

On March 06, 2015, at the height of the negotiations between Iran and the world powers p5+1 over Iran's nuclear program, Soltanpour interviewed the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. [8]

On April 02, 2015, Soltanpour covered live the negotiations between Iran and the world powers on what became known as the Negotiations on Iran nuclear deal framework. [9]
