Nalas Shiv Temple, also known as Shanaleshwar Mahadev Swayambhu, is an ancient Hindu temple in Rajpura village of Punjab, India dedicated to Lord Shiva.[1][2] "Swayambhu" is a Sanskrit word, meaning "self-manifested" or "self-existing".

People usually visit this temple every Monday to perform Shiva Puja. While this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Maha Shivaratri, one of the Hindu festivals is celebrated in Navas.[3] It is usually celebrated every year, taking place for consecutive three days.[4]

History

Due to the fertile land, cow keepers used to come here to graze their cows. Almost daily, a cow would stop in one place and its milk stream would automatically come out in a specific place. (where the swayambhu lingam was covered with the surface of the earth & the name of that cow was "nandni") No one knew what was under the earth and where the milk of the nandni cow was going every day. One day the nandni cow keeper followed the nandni cow and saw that it was stopping at one place and its milk stream was automatically coming out there, where the swayambhu was covered with grass plants and jujube. Then the ground was dug by some cow keepers, after which they saw a lingam in the first layer of earth.[5][6] This swayambhu was identified by sadhu Karam Giri. At that time, Karam Giri was doing spiritual practice for moksha under the banyan tree.

Religion

Sadhus have been doing spiritual practice here and/or Meditation.[7]
