Nalas Shiv Temple, also known as Shanaleshwar Mahadev Swayambhu, is an ancient Hindu temple in Rajpura village of Punjab, India dedicated to Lord Shiva.[1][2] "Swayambhu" is a Sanskrit word, meaning "self-manifested" or "self-existing".

People usually visit this temple every Monday to perform Shiva Puja. While this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Maha Shivaratri, one of the Hindu festivals is celebrated in Navas.[3] It is usually celebrated every year which takes place for consecutive three-days.[4]

History[edit]

Due to the fertile land, cow keepers used to come here to graze their cows. Almost daily, a cow used to stop in one place and its milk stream automatically came out in a specific place. (where swayambhu lingam was overed with surface of the earth & the name of that cow was "nandni") No one knew that what is under of the earth and where the milk of nandni cow is gone every day. One day the nandni cow keeper back followed nandni cow and saw that nandni cow stopping at one place and its milk stream automatically came out on their place, where swayambhu covered with grass plants and jujube. Then the ground was dug by some cow keepers after that those saw a lingam into the first layer of earth.[5][6] This swayambhu was identified by sadhu karam giri. That time karam giri used to do spiritual practice for moksha under the banyan tree.

Religion[edit]
