Natalia Babi is a Miami, FL. based artist whose mixed-media piece "Sea Turtle" was selected as the cover of the government's travel magazine in Florida. The graces cover created by Natalia Babi became symbolical In the State of Florida,[citation needed] to protect and preserve our natural heritage – by helping the survival of one of the earth’s oldest animals.

Biography[edit]

Natalia Babi was born, in the early eighties, in Odessa, Ukraine, where, in future, she studied art and philosophy. In addition, she was seriously involved in athletics, and became the Ukrainian women's high-jump champion.[citation needed]

Babi was noticed and invited by a modeling agency to work in New York. While working as a fashion model, she became fascinated with photography. She collaborated with photographers from all over the world including the legendary Helmut Newton, posing not only for magazines, but also for her own art projects Babi credits the beauty of Odessa as a source of much of her inspiration.

Art[edit]

In Babi's artwork she is not only the artist, but also (in some of the projects) the main character in her works, as well as their director. Each painting is a thoroughly orchestrated spectacle, using the image of the artist as a central emotive reference point. Her art is a symbiosis of the personal, the fantastic, the historical, and of the spectrum of worldwide popular culture - a window into an idealized world. She uses metallic-pearly shades, crystalline sparkle, deep colors, mixed media, and photo images transferred to canvas, fusing photography with painting.[citation needed]

She relies on mystical themes in her work, as a means of understanding and interpreting reality.

In February 2008, her first major solo show "Colors of Ambient" was exhibited at the historical Hollywood Cultural Arts Center Museum and Ms. Babi figured prominently in a subsequent article appearing in the Miami Herald. Bomond magazine ran a feature article about her. She is currently[when?] working on two new shows that will be appearing in major cities all over the world: “Wondrous Women of Fantasy and Reality”, paintings of women who have made an impact on world culture throughout history; and a second show "Simple Geniuses", a series of paintings based on the philosophy of Albert Einstein. Babi has created portraits of entertainers Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot, Frank Sinatra, among others. In 2012, Natalia Babi has created a “Rosy” Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in honor of the 60-year anniversary celebration of the Queen’s accession to the throne. The royal portrait was presented to a personal attention of the queen.[clarification needed]
