Nathan McCormack is an American former military officer, who served as the Levant and Egypt branch chief at the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s J5 planning directorate from June 2024 to June 2025.[1][2][3]

Social media comments about Israel and 2025 firing

In June 2025, McCormack was removed from his role following allegations he had posted comments critical of Israel on a private Twitter account.[4] The comments, reported by Jewish News Syndicate, included posts that noted “We have overwhelmingly enabled Israel’s bad behavior,” describing the United States' relationship with Israel.[1][5] McCormack questioned if the United States had become a proxy for Israel, and characterized Israel's responses to Palestinians as "disproportionately" targeting civilians.[6]

A Joint Chiefs of Staff official confirmed to The Daily Wire that McCormack had been removed from his position, pending a probe into his conduct by the Army.[6]
