Nayi Disha Studios

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Nayi Disha Studios is an India based company that builds educational computer games for preschool children to make learning fun and more engaging, using motion sensing technology. Nayi Disha Studio uses Microsoft's Kinect camera for motion recognition in kindergarten classrooms. Along with its movement based games, Nayi Disha also provides hardware installation and teacher training services for their games.[1]

History[edit]

Nayi Disha was founded by Kartik Aneja, Kushal Bhagia and Kunal Chawla. Kartik and Kushal are graduates from BITS Pilani while Kunal is a graduate from Stanford school of education in early 2013. The Idea of Nayi Disha was born during Kartik's intership where he started developing two educational games and made them interactive with the help of motion gaming. He also tested these games at an orphanage in Ejipura in Bangalore.[2]

In April 2015, Nayi Disha Studios raised Rs.2 crores in seed funding from risk capital veteran Ajay Relan, managing partner of mid-to-growth stage private equity firm CX Partners.[3][4][5]

Technology[edit]

Nayi Disha's motion based games are powered by the Microsoft's kinect camera. The Kinect camera tracks child's body movement which are used in the game play.[6] For e.g. in one of the games about learning numbers through a number line, children have to actually jump which is then tracked by the Kinect camera and replicated in the game.

Kaju[edit]

Kaju is an animated character developed by Nayi Disha Studios and it appears in all Kaju games and stories developed for homes and schools.[7]

Product[edit]

Apart from building kinect camera based learning solutions for preschool classrooms, Nayi disha Studios also builds similar movement based learning games for homes. The company has launched these learning apps for Android and iOS smartphones.[8]

Research Methodology[edit]

Nayi Disha's games are based on the Howard Gartner's theory of multiple intelligences. At an early age, children have different learning styles – some learn by looking, some by listening, and many others by moving. Nayi Disha's motion based technology lets  children learn through their respective learning styles, thus making learning a fun experience for them.[9]

Awards and Recognition[edit]

In Demeber 2016, Economic Times announces Nayi Disha Studios as one of the hottest top 50 startups to watch for in 2017[10] In 2015, Nayi Disha Studios received the Intel Innovation Award for its games 'Skywriting Alphabets' at the 2015 APEC Accelerator Network Summit & Global Challenge.[11]
