Neil D'Silva
Neil D’Silva is an Indian author, screenwriter, and writing coach. He is known for his novels Maya’s New Husband (2015), Yakshini (2019), and the co-authored story collection, Haunted: Real-life Encounters with Ghosts and Spirits (2019)[1][2]. He writes mainly in the horror genre.[3]
Early life[edit]
Neil D’Silva was born in Mumbai on 31 October 1975, and hails from Kallianpur, a town near Mangalore in Karnataka. He was schooled in Mumbai’s Children’s Academy school, and pursued college education in M.V.L.U. College and D.G. Ruparel College. In 1998, he completed his post-graduation in Organic Chemistry from Mumbai University.
In 2015, D’Silva published his first novel, Maya’s New Husband, a horror-thriller with the theme of aghori practices, after which he quit his teaching career of 18 years and pursued full-time writing.[4]
He currently resides in Mumbai with his family.

Neil D’Silva’s debut novel Maya’s New Husband told the story of a Mumbai-based school teacher married to a serial killer who secretly indulges in aghori practices, which was also mentioned in a research journal on the topic of Indian Horror fiction.[5] It was followed in the same year (2015) by two short story collections, The Evil Eye and the Charm and Bound in Love.
In 2017, D’Silva published his next full-length novel, Pishacha.
D’Silva’s next release was Yakshini. Initially a self-published novel, Yakshini was published later by Rupa Publications in 2019. Yakshini was a story set in rural Maharashtra of a girl named Meenakshi who has the soul of a demigoddess (a Yakshini) within her.[6]
Haunted: Real-life Encounters with Ghosts and Spirits was released by Penguin Random House India in 2019. This book was a collaboration between D’Silva and paranormal investigator, Jay Alani. Both Yakshini and Haunted were represented by the literary agency, The Book Bakers. D’Silva recently published a short-story collection titled Ringa Ringa Roses.[7]. It was also picked up for a screen adaptation by Juggernaut India. [8]
Other literary activities[edit]
In 2015, D’Silva started an annual literary festival in collaboration with the Children’s Academy Group of Schools, Mumbai, named as Litventure.[9] Litventure is a one-day annual festival that has been taken place four times chapters so far.
D’Silva has judged on several writing competitions such as Wattpad India Awards 2019, horror story-writing competition organized by publishers Half Baked Beans, The Story Awards 2020 organized by SheThePeople.[10]
