Nickelodeon Toon Twister 3D

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Nickelodeon Toon Twister 3D (sometimes referred to as Toon Twister) is a PC game released by Nickelodeon on October 15, 2003. This game was developed by Scholastic, Nick Games and WayForward Technologies.

The program is used to create 3D cartoons using characters from Spongebob Squarepants, The Fairly OddParents, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and Rugrats. The user can make these characters do whatever he or she wants them to do.

There's 40 backgrounds, 19 characters, and 50 props to use in your movie. There's also a small selection of music to add to multiple scenes. Plankton (voiced by Mr. Lawrence) guides the user throughout the program. Help can be turned off at any time in options.

Interface[edit]

The interface is similar to other video editing software such as Windows Movie Maker, Nickelodeon's 3D Movie Maker, Source Filmmaker and Sony Vegas. On the top left hand corner of the screen is where you can add movements, actions, and dialogue for your movie, as well as change your options, such as video player size and turning off Plankton's help. On the top right hand corner of the screen is the Cartoon Movie Window. It shows everything used in your movie, such as the characters, props, and visual effects. On the bottom of the screen, there's three different things you see.

Storyboard[edit]

It shows all your scenes, featuring the title at the beginning and the credits at the end. You can add transitions between scenes by selecting the one you want. This is also where you can add music to a scene.

Preparation[edit]

It shows all your backgrounds, characters, and props in separate sections. Just click on a background, then a character and/or prop, and it will magically appear in the preview window. Multiple characters and props can be used, just you can't add multiple backgrounds. You can change your background and props, as well as remove and/or change characters, at any time in the prep tab.

Timeline[edit]

This is where all the magic happens. Each character has its own track, and there's also tracks for your special effects and camera movements. Movements appear in green, and dialogue/sounds appear in yellow. For movements, drag it for as long as you want, then let go to stop the movement. Dialogue has a duration of at least 2 to 5 seconds and it will automatically stop after that duration. You can increase animation duration by dragging a purple handle at the end of the animation. Also one scene can go on for at least 8 minutes before you need to create a new scene. It feels very limited, but multiple scenes can be added to your movie. Lastly, if you don't like something, click on a trash can icon to delete it completely from your movie.

Files, Models and Props Pre Installed in the Program[edit]

Backgrounds

The backgrounds are where your scenes take place for your movie. You need to select a background before placing your characters and/or props in the scene. Most of these backgrounds were pulled straight from the Nicktoons themselves, such as the jail cell used in The Fairly OddParents episode The Big Problem!

Characters

The characters are the stars in your movie. You can make your characters move just by selecting him or her and using tools in the movement tab to move your character around the background. You can also make your character do a certain action, such as cry, run, laugh, walk, or fall backwards. The action tab has a list of available actions you can use for your character instead of just simply moving your character around. You can also make your characters talk. To do this, click on the talk tab, and then select what you want your character to say by clicking on it. There's three sections in the talk tab. The first one is hellos. This one is pretty self explanatory. You can make your character say hello to other characters or towards the audience (by breaking the 4th wall). The second one is goodbyes. This one is also pretty self explanatory. You can make your character say goodbye to other characters or towards the audience (again by breaking the 4th wall). The last one is sayings. This section is dedicated to a list of lines that your character can say towards other characters or towards the audience (yet again by breaking the 4th wall). You can also make your character cry, laugh, throw a tantrum, or make other sounds. Unfortunately, each character only has a limited amount of lines that you can use. Luckily, there is an option to record your own voice if you have a microphone. Sadly, you can only record 10 seconds of your own voice. Just select the character and say something short. You can further extend it by recording your voice over and over again. You can try to do voice impressions as well for your characters so you can sound like the characters and make them say whatever they want.

Here is a list of available characters you can use for your movie.

Props

Props are additional objects that can be placed in your scene. There is a prop section in this program. You can move your props around just like with your characters. Just click on a prop and choose a movement. Then move the prop anywhere on the screen.

Sound Effects and Visual Effects

Sound effects are used to enhance your movie. There's sounds such as screams, car sounds, bricks falling, fireworks, a Godzilla style roar, and more sound effects. You can add them in the timeline on a separate audio track. Visual effects are special effects added to your movie that you can see. Such as tears, poof clouds, and lightning. Using these effects can inflate your budget in your 3D cartoon and make it more like a movie that was made in Hollywood.

Camera Movements

Moving the camera will make your movie more professional. You can zoom in, zoom out, and pan your camera all around the screen. Zooming in is essential for getting a close up of your subject. Zooming out is essential for moving away from your subject. And panning is essential for moving the camera towards your subject moving usually left or right. It looks like you are the one behind the camera in this program!

Music

If you want, you can add some music to a certain scene. However, if your scene is longer than the music, then the selected music will loop over and over again until the end of your scene. Here is a list of available music you can choose from.

Unfortunately, you cannot add your own music. You can also only choose one song per scene though. That one song will loop over and over again if it is longer than 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

Titles and Credits

Titles are generally added at the beginning of your movie. Just type in a catchy title and you're done. To enhance your title, change the color and font. Your title can be placed above a background. Credits are generally added at the end of your movie. Just type in your credits at the end. Try adding in who starred in your movie, who directed your movie, what music did you use, etc. Your credits can also be placed over a background.

Saving and Watching Your Completed Movies[edit]

You can save a limited amount of movies in your library that you can watch over and over again. Your movies are presented in the 16:9 aspect ratio when you view it in full screen. You also have the option to save your movie to your hard drive so you can email them to a friend or post it to your YouTube channel or Facebook timeline. Another way to get your movie posted on the Internet is to record your movie using a screen recorder such as Bandicam (not recommended), and then uploading the finished product to the Internet.

YouTube[edit]

Several users, such as Rugrats1991 (credited as Jared Boles), Mamon Fighter 761, mrtyesvideos, and bekyjewell post their own 3D cartoons to YouTube. Some get between 100 and a few thousand views, while a select few get between 100,000 and 700,000 views. The most notable ones are The Timmy Jimmy Tommy Power Hour (with Plankton), Tittle (the word Title misspelled), Spongebob's Dance Lesson, Carzillo, Timmy's Revenge, Carzillo 2 The Return (made using multiple programs, not just Nickelodeon Toon Twister 3D), and The Fairly OddParents Spongebob Crossover.

Reception[edit]

The game received mixed reviews on Amazon.[citation needed] Also some of the 3D cartoons on YouTube had mixed reception.[citation needed] Some say the program is essential for making 3D cartoons, while others say that there is not a lot to do in the program, which makes not that fun to use, and that you can't add your own sound effects, music, characters, props, special effects or video clips.[citation needed]
