Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka Thero is an eminent Sri Lankan Buddhist monk, the current chief incumbent/Director of Madiwela Jhananda Buddhist Centre[1] and Nikapotha Sri Subaddhraramaya. Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka Thero a Anunahimi of Udarata Amarapura Maha Nikaya (Sinhala: අමරපුර මහ නිකාය).

Early life[edit]

Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka thero [2] was born in Nikapotha village in Badulla, Uva province in 1948. Conceived to Rathnayaka Mudiyanselage Bandara Manike (Mother), Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka thero was the second child in line of 6 children, and father Amarathunga Mudiyanselage Muthubandara. With the coming of school age Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka thero was admitted to the Nikapotha Madya Maha Vidyalaya, under the supervision of K G Mudiyanse (Headmaster in charge) and was transferred to Walhaputhanna Madya Maha Vidyalaya for Higher studies.[3]

Ascetic Life[edit]

In 1962 Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka thero entered the Buddhist order. His ordination was held at Nikapotha Sri Subadhraramaya and was ordained under Udubadana Rathanajothi thero and Chief incumbent of Maharagama Sucharithodhaya Budhdhist Centre Ambegoda Knananannda Thero. With the numerous services to the public and Buddhism around the world Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka thero was given the honorary title of Sadhdharmacharya Rathanajothi Wansalankara by the Mahanayaka thero of Udarata Amarapura Nikaya. Further in 2001 tri Mahanayaka s of all Nikayas gave the Honorary title Sadhdharma Vagiswarashastra Visharada Panditha. Under the super vision of Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka Thero there are more than 50 + buddhist monks residing in Sri Subadhraramaya pirivena. The Sri Lankan Western Province sangha sabha Presidency has elected Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka Thero for several years and currently is the chief advisor in the said committee.[4] With the number of years in seat In 2004 December 25 Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka Thero was titled the Chief Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka's economic hub of western province. In 2018 May 20 Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka Thero was handed the akthapathraya (Act Of Appointment) of Anunayaka position in Udarata Amarapura Maha Nikaya which is of the second highest position in Buddhist hierarchy of importance in Sri Lanka.

Contribution to Buddhism Overseas[edit]

Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka thero was determined to bring Buddhism to all beings around the world. As an initiative Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka thero visited India and Nepal several times as an reminder to development and protection of Buddhism in two countries. In 2003 Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka thero visited Thailand, Myanmar, China and Singapore on several invitations by religious leaders. In 2008 Nikapotha Chandrajothi Anunayaka thero visited Japan for a religious event and in 2014 to South Korea accepting invitations to several high ranking religious conferences.
