Early life[edit]

Nirvana was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, the only child of legendary Kwa-Zulu Natal born artists Tu Nokwe (Pampatha from Shaka Zulu) and Bheki Mseleku. Although the only child of the pair, she is the last of 9 children from her father. Nirvana's childhood was like no other, having a family of musicians, actors, singers, visionaries, songwriters and performers, she grew up pretty much in studios, on stages, overseas, and on the road constantly moving. Her grandmother and grandfather from her Mother's side Patty Kantukhona Nokwe - opera singer and actress, and Alfred D. Nokwe - actor; musician & model made the Nokwe home to be one of arts and culture - grooming the next generation of artists and entertainers.

Nirvana was exposed to many stages and performance opportunities at a very young age. She's danced, sung and acted on many stages across the world such as in Norway, Finland, Maputo, Mozambique, etc.

She started her vocal career at the age of 4 when she was requested to sing amongst legend Busi Mhlongo. From then on, her Aunt Marilyn Nokwe became her agent in voice over, jingle and soundtrack work. Raised primarily by her mother and aunt, Nirvana started travelling with her mother at a very young age - 4 months old to be exact. She attended attended St. James Preparatory School of Philosophy - quiet an esoteric institution in its nature as they studied the sanskrit language as well the teachings of Plato, Hermes and others alike. Nirvana's parents were very much spiritual and open minded, mindsets far beyond their time - practising yoga, meditating, being vegetarian and reading books such as the Bhagavad Gita. Their lives together were quiet liberal.

Nirvana's father passed when she was 12-years-old. She's since written many songs about him yet to be released.
