Northern Spire Productions is an independent record label specializing in metal music sub-genres.[1] Their company slogan is “Unitem Sub Spira”, a Latin motto which translates to “United Under The Spire”; an allusion to the company’s logo which features an obelisk[1]. Focusing primarily on Michigan artists, their prevailing microbranding style is artistically described as “dark."[2]
History[edit]
In 2020, artists Orelisk and Korpi began discussing the idea of founding a business to support their local art community during the COVID-19 pandemic while gatherings were prohibited[2][3]. The result was the record label, Northern Spire Productions, being formally founded in the summer of 2022 under ownership and operation of Orelisk. Subsequently, the label's website and webshop were launched in autumn of 2022.[2]
The back-catalogs of the bands Orelisk is/was involved with were inducted under the distribution of the label on August 22nd 2022.[4] This included various independently released digital and physical products, with the exception of physical products released by bands' previous label, Black Metal Catalog Productions.
Current Activities[edit]
In autumn 2022 the label began collaborating with Bindrune Recordings for a limited distribution deal involving Northern Spire Productions' products.[5]
Owner Orelisk has actively engaged in press interviews regarding his own musical involvements and Northern Spire Productions.[6][7][8]
The label has publicly stated that while it is not engaged in signing bands, it encourages musicians to send demo materials to them.[1]
Artists[edit]
The stated intentions of the label are to support Michigan metal artists; and be a "label by artists for artists."[1] From the label's lineup, this has been interpreted to mean that they will sign Michigan based metal acts.
