Now You See is a four-track EP released by the American rock band A Course of Action. The EP was released on January 2, 2006, via the band’s independent record label Spire Records.[1]
Background
Following the release of their self-titled debut album Hybrid in November 2004, the band—then known as Hybrid—began performing regionally to promote the album and build a broader audience in the southeastern United States. During this period, the band solidified its identity within the post-grunge and alternative rock scenes, performing at various local venues and music festivals with bands like Nickelback, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Shinedown, Finger Eleven, Hinder, Hoobastank, and Chevelle.[2]
In mid-2005, the group entered the studio to begin recording a follow-up EP that would reflect their musical growth and experimentation with heavier tones and more complex arrangements. The sessions took place in Connelly Springs, North Carolina, and included four new tracks written collectively by guitarist Jon Byrd, bassist Tony Hawkins, vocalist John Culberson, and drummer Okey Parsons.[3]
The resulting EP, Now You See, was completed by the end of 2005 and released in January 2006 through their independent label, Spire Records. Not long after the EP’s release, drummer Okey Parsons exited the group, prompting lineup adjustments and internal discussions about the band’s direction.[4]
Later in 2006, the band officially changed its name to A Course of Action, citing the need for a more distinct and recognizable identity in a crowded digital landscape. Now You See stands as the final release under the Hybrid name and represents a transitional period that would shape the foundation of their future recordings and live performances under their new band name.[5]
Release
Still under the band name Hybrid, the Now You See EP was released on January 2, 2006. Due to the fact that the band was not signed to a record company nor contracted a deal with a distribution company for its release, the format of the release saw very limited physical CD versions of the EP being pressed and sold at merch booths at local gigs and live performances. The EP's main platform of release was iTunes and the music streaming services ReverbNation and Broadjam.[6]
As of 2025, the EP is only available to stream via Broadjam.com.[7]
Now You See was the last release featured under their original band name Hybrid before their name change to A Course of Action later in 2006. It was also the last release that featured original drummer Okey Parsons before he was replaced by drummer Greg Lucy later in 2006 during the band’s transition into their new identity.[8]
