Rocklahoma is a four-track EP released by the American rock band, A Course of Action.[1] The EP was released on May 22, 2014 via the band's own independent record label.[2] The release to coincide with the band's scheduled appearance at the annual Rocklahoma music festival in Pryor, Oklahoma.[3][4]
Production
Following the success of their 2011 debut album Dark Before the Dawn, and the regional momentum generated by the single "Never There," A Course of Action began receiving increasing radio airplay across rock stations in the Southeastern United States and landed multiple support slots for national touring acts.[5] Their growing popularity caught the attention of festival organizers, which led to a booking at the 2014 Rocklahoma festival—one of the largest U.S. rock festivals showcasing both major label artists and rising independent acts.[5]
The band viewed the festival opportunity not only as a career milestone but also as a moment to release new material that better reflected their evolving sound and songwriting direction and to capitalize on their growing popularity, and expose their music to new fans at Rocklahoma who would be hearing them thefirst time. In result of their idea for maximum exposure, the band recorded and released the Rocklahoma EP specifically for promotional use during their performance at the Rocklahoma music festival in 2014.[6][7]
They collaborated with acclaimed rock producer Beau Hill to capture a balance between the raw energy of their live performances and a more refined studio polish. Hill's background with bands like Ratt, Alice Cooper, and Warrant helped elevate the production while preserving the band's post-grunge foundation.[8]
The tracks were recorded during 2013 and early 2014, capturing the band's signature post-grunge and hard rock sound.[8] All four tracks featured on the Rocklahoma were later re-recorded and released on the band's second album Treason.[9]
