Nurali Aliyev (born 1 January 1985) is Kazakh businessman, economist, eldest grandson of the first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. He is included one of Kazakhstan’s 10 richest businessmen.[1]

Biography[edit]

Aliyev was born in Almaty in 1985. He graduated from the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. He also studied at Pepperdine University (USA), International University (Austria) and Imadec University International School of Business. A graduate of the Stanford Executive Program (Stanford University, United States).[2][3]

Nurali’s career in business started in 2004 with a position of the president in the family company called Sakharny Zentr. Two years later he headed Nurbank and HiT TV, a broadcasting corporation.[4]

2006 also saw founding of Capital Holding, the investment firm that became Nurali’s main source of earnings. It encompassed Transtelecom (a telecom business), Europe Plus Kazakhstan radio station, Darmen Holding (IT) and Nd Capital (VC).

Public and charity activity[edit]

From 2017 to 2020 – President of the Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 2018, Nurali Aliyev founded Snow Leopard Foundation — private international foundation dedicated to conservation of the snow leopard. The charity provided financial and technical aid to the scientists of the Institute of Zoology (Kazakhstan) for exploration of potential snow leopard habitats in the vicinity of Almaty; the study yielded unique data on leopards’ headcount, age and gender distribution, breeding and mortality.[5]

Nurali Aliev married to Aida Imasheva who is the daughter of Berik Imashev, and they have four children.[6][7][8][9][10]

Offshore activities[edit]

Nurali Aliyev was named in the Panama Papers as having vast amounts of wealth held in offshore companies through Alba International and the Baltimore Alliance which are registered in the British Virgin Islands.[11][12][13][14] In the spring of 2020, a United Kingdom court in London ordered him to prove the legal origin of over $100 million of his wealth associated with three firms registered in Panama, Netherlands Antilles, and Anguilla.[15][16][17]
