OTOXO Productions is a documentary production company based in Barcelona, Spain. Its output focuses on contemporary social and cultural issues within the region of Catalonia, Spain.

History[edit]

OTOXO was formed in 2008 by John English, Tom Hardy, Tom Garner and Sara Malavasi. As a group of four they produced two films: Me Migrant in 2008[1] and La Lliga in 2011.[2][3] Malavasi and Hardy subsequently left the company. English and Garner remained with the company and are still its co-directors. Since 2011 they have produced seven films; The Basic Ingredients,[4] Calles de Oro,[5] El Ritme en Els Temps,[6] "New Roots",[7] "Yours, Mine, Ours",[8] "Al Mismo Tempo",[9] and "Above and Below"[10] as well as four series of short films: "Voices, Faces, City Spaces,[11] Héroes Anonomos,[12] Autónom@s de Mierda[13] and Dialogos de Migrantes.[14][15]

Distribution[edit]

OTOXO's output is principally created for television stations and online media outlets in the region of Catalonia,[16][17][18][19] but it has also screened work at festivals around Europe.[20][21][22]

The Into Industry Programme[edit]

Every six months, OTOXO collaborates with young filmmakers to produce half hour documentaries through its INto INdustry Programme.[26][27][28] The programme is designed to train potential filmmakers to industry production standards and give them their first professional experience within the industry. It has been the starting point in the careers of a number of emerging filmmakers, journalists and documentary photographers from around the world, such as Bertie Alison,[29] Boryana Ivanova[30] Claire Stapley,[31] Juana Khadijain[32] and Merry Wafwana.[33]

Collaborations[edit]

OTOXO Productions have collaborated with various co-producers, including Noctiluca Media,[34] BCN Mes,[35] and Andres Bartos (Bright Bright Films).[36]
