Ofer Bengal (Hebrew: עופר בנגל‎; born August 2, 1952) is an Israeli serial-entrepreneur and a multi-disciplinary inventor.[1]He is the co-founder and CEO of Redis Labs,[2] a data management platform company, based in Mountain View, California.[3][4]

Early life and education[edit]

Bengal was born in Tel-Aviv. and was raised in Tel-Aviv, Nazareth, Eilat, and Ramat Hasharon, before moving at the age of fourteen to Jerusalem, due to the nomination of his father to Serjeant-at-arms of the Knesset. [5]

Bengal completed his high-school studies at the Hebrew University Secondary School and his Bachelor of Science (cum laude) degree in aerospace engineering at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology.[5]

Career[edit]

Between 1974 and 1983 Bengal served as an officer in the engineering division of the Israeli Air Force.

In 1989 he founded RiT Technologies, a provider of data communications network management systems,[6] which he took public at NASDAQ in 1997 and managed as CEO until the year 2000.[7] RiT was one of the first technology startup companies in Israel and one of the first companies in the RAD Group.[8][9]

In 2011 he co-founded Redis Labs, the home of Redis, the world’s most popular in-memory database, and commercial provider of Redis Enterprise, and has served as the company’s CEO ever since.[10][11] In August 2020 the company reached a $1 billion valuation.[12][13]

In April 2021 Bengal announced an investment of 110 million US dollars into the company at a valuation of more than 2 billion dollars,[14] led by Tiger Global Management, with the participation of Softbank Vision Fund II and TCV.[15]

Personal life[edit]

In 1976 Bengal married Naomi Feldman and they had a daughter and a son. They later divorced. In 1999 he married Oshrat Kotler and they had a daughter.[29] They later divorced. Since 2014 he lives with Evelyne Douek, ex-wife of Ronny Douek.[1]
