The Ohio Bootleggers are a professional basketball team based in Westerville, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. The team played the first half of their inaugural season as the Ohio Cardinals in Akron, Ohio.
On October 6, 2017, North American Premier Basketball (NAPB) announced the Ohio Cardinals would play in Akron, Ohio, from the LeBron James Arena for the inaugural 2018 NAPB season. Michael Porrini initially served as both owner and head coach of the team until Justin Greene was hired as head coach.
After 23 games, the NAPB transferred the Ohio territorial rights to the ownership of the Vancouver Knights for the remainder of the 2018 season as the Ohio Bootleggers, a team previously announced for the North American Basketball League (NABL). The former Knights' owners claimed to have sold the Vancouver team to another ownership group.
