Omar Mahmoud Al-Jarrah (In Arabic: عمرمحمود الجراح‎) (born November 1, 1967) is a Jordanian academic and Artificial intelligence (AI) scholar.[1][2][3] He is also a professor of computer engineering and a researcher in intelligent systems, robotics, wireless networks and cloud computing. He is a former President of the Jordan University of Science and Technology.[4][5][6][7]

Biography and career life[edit]

He was born and raised in the Al Mazar al Shamali in the Irbid Governorate,[8] northern Jordan, graduated and was awarded a bachelor's degree in computer engineering with honors from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in 1991 before traveling to the United States and obtaining a doctorate degree from Ohio State University in 1996.[1][9]

He held leadership positions as he was Dean of the College of Information Technology, Assistant and Vice-President, and then President of the Jordan University of Science and Technology and President of Amman Arab University and he is currently Vice President of the Arab Open University.[10][11][12][13]

In 2017 he was dismissed from the presidency of the University of Science and Technology [14] he appealed the dismissal in court, but it was upheld despite community support.[15][5][16][17][18][19]


He has written seventy research papers published in international specialized, refereed and classified journals or proceedings of refereed and specialized international conferences.[20][21]
