Omar Baltazar Juarez (born 30 August 1983), also known as El Oms, is a Mexican-American artist, animator, and director. He is known for making animated music videos, album artwork, and illustrations.

Biography

Omar Juarez was born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico.[1] As a child, he was inspired by street culture, graffiti, and music.[1] He later began working under the name El Oms.[1]

Juarez creates visual designs and animated videos for music projects. He has worked with musicians and bands, such as El Michels Affair, Evolfo, Tony Joe White, Lee Fields and the Expressions, El Dusty, Hermanos Gutiérrez, and Thee Lakesiders.

In 2015, Juarez directed the animated music video for "Put A Flower In Your Pocket" by The Arcs,[2] a noir-style story with anthropomorphic characters.[3][4][5][6][7][8] He also created the cover art for the band's debut album, Yours, Dreamily,, mixing Chicano art with classic monster themes.[9]

In 2017, he made an animated video for "Iron Man" by El Michels Affair. The video mixes martial arts style with action scenes.[10] In the same year, he also made a video called "La Chusa" about lowrider culture in the 1990s.[11]

In 2018, Juarez made a video for "Up On a Mountain of Love" by Dan Auerbach, showing a couple being pulled into a painting.[12] In 2021, he created animated visuals for Give Me Time by Evolfo[13] and "Smoke from the Chimney" by Tony Joe White.[14] That same year, he also designed the cover for the single "Fazed Out" by El Michels Affair.[15]

Juarez has also directed live-action music videos for Thee Lakesiders and Thee Heart Tones.[16] He designed the album cover for "Electrophonic Chronic" by The Arcs. In 2024, the artwork was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Recording Package category.

His artwork is also featured in books. He illustrated a children's book called Yeti Season by Francine Prose, and his work appears in La Luna en Mi Corazón, a book by poet Anthony Luke Lucero.
