Opmantek[edit]

Opmantek Pty Ltd. (A contraction of Operational Management Technology) is an organization that develops and promotes open source and commercial open source software (OSS) focused on automated network management, monitoring and auditing.[1] Opmantek's core products, Open-AudIT and NMIS (Network Management Information System), are open-source, while they offer commercial support, assistance with customizations and low-cost, add-on modules to derive revenue[2]. Opmantek have won multiple awards including being the Australian Exporter of the Year [3] and Australian Exporter of the Year (2014, 2017).[4][5] In 2021, Opmantek secured a ten-year agreement to provide software and support to Nextlink Internet [6]

History[edit]

Opmantek was formed and founded by Chairman Danny Maher through the acquisition of the intellectual property to NMIS. In early 2011, upon acquiring the intellectual property Mr Maher initiated a successful (oversubscribed) capital raise on the Australian Small Scale Offerings Board (ASSOB, now Enable Funding) and successfully received a grant from the City of Gold Coast Council to establish the corporate headquarters at the Gold Coast, Australia over other destinations such as Silicon Valley or Sydney.[7][8] In 2011, Mr Maher recruited NMIS’ founder Keith Sinclair from Cisco Systems to become the company’s CTO to assist with newly acquired clients John Deere and Telmex.[9] [10] Opmantek accelerated the development of NMIS while remaining open-source and free (both in the Free Software Foundation definition and also in monetary terms).

Growth[edit]

Under Keith Sinclair’s guidance, Opmantek set about producing commercial modules that enhance the functionality of NMIS beginning in September 2012 and continues to be released and maintained to this day based on user feedback and industry demand. In January 2013, Opmantek announced it had acquired the intellectual property to the open source project Open-AudIT. As was the case with NMIS, Opmantek committed to maintaining Open-AudIT as an open source project while offering support and extended modules to derive revenue. Open-AudIT’s founder, Mark Unwin, joined Opmantek as part of the acquisition terms.[11] During the COVID-19 pandemic, Opmantek offered a $20M grant to support Healthcare and Government.[12]
