Orisha Sound is a musical duo based in Kingston, Jamaica and Los Angeles, California. The style of the project combines elements of reggae, ragga, jungle, dancehall and dance music. Originally started by Orisha Pelzer in 2012, the project became a duet in 2016 when Sheldon "Shel-K" Williams officially joined the group.

Beginning[edit]

Orisha of Russian father and Brazilian mother grew up in Saint Petersburg, Russia. She learned violin, piano, guitar and singing as a child. At nine years old, she was a child-prodigy virtuoso, touring in Europe and the United States. Later, she has attended Music College and Saint Petersburg State Conservatory. At 18 Orisha has moved to the United States where she graduated from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. In Los Angeles music scene she quickly gained popularity as a musician recording with likes of Anthony Hamilton, Jae Deal, Devante Swing and many more. In the industry she was called "The Sound" for her ability as multi-instrumentalist. In 2012 she has formed Orisha Sound project and started working on her debut album "Cupid". During her trip to Jamaica, Shel-K had contributed to the album, producing three tracks - "Sunshine Lady" featuring Wayne Daniels, "Embrace It" featuring Sizzla Kalonji and "Beautiful Sin" (reggae version).

Musical career[edit]

Orisha Sound's debut single was released by InGrooves Fontana in 2012. After this international single was released, several major labels were trying to get Orisha Sound on their roster. In 2013 she had signed a deal with RBC records (Snoop Lion, DJ Quick, Ice Cube, Game) and released 15-track album "Cupid" on July 9 of that year. The album was co-produced by Orisha,Shel-K and Billboard Platinum producer Andrew Lane. Two songs from the album - dancehall track "Embrace It" featuring Sizzla Kalonji and one-drop tune "Sunshine Lady" featuring Wayne Daniel went on the charts in several countries and reached number one in Jamaica. The videos for two singles - reggae version of the "Beautiful Sin" and sultry "Make Me Moan" were premiered on MTV network and get rotation on different stations all over the world.[1][2]

Orisha has worked on stage and in the studio with a number of recording artists including Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Sizzla Kalonji, Jimmy Cliff and Beenie Man, amongst others.[3]

Orisha Sound have performed in places like Jazz and Blues International Festival, House of Blues, Hard Rock Café, Wiltern Theatre, Reggae Sting, Key Club, Viper Room, Kite Festival, Moscow Reggae Fest, G T Taylor Christmas Extravaganza and many more. Orisha Sound’s second album, 1 Reggae, was released online only on October 28, 2014 on the Black and Yellow Entertainment label. The album features reworkings of tracks from Cupid and some new material. 1 Reggae includes appearances from Beenie Man, Sizzla Kalonji and Anthony Que.[4][5] [6]

“World War Three” featuring Grammy winning King of the dancehall Beenie Man was released at the end of 2013 by Black and Yellow Entertainment and Zojak Worldwide.[7]

Acting career[edit]

Orisha has appeared in the short films “Holding Back” and "Katrina on Rewind".[8]
