The Orm family in Western Norway is the family of Orm Erikson and Erik Ormson Orm. It mainly comprises persons residing in Stavanger and in Stord.

Coat of Arms of «Erich Ormsen of Vatne» according to Iver Hirtzholm s roll of arms

Introduction[edit]

Many genealogies have Orm Eriksen in Stavanger referred to as Orm Eriksen Orm.[citation needed] Orm is then used as a family name. There are no known sources where Orm Eriksen used this name. Before we meet Erik Ormson as Erik Orm around 1550, there were several who used Orm as a surname or nickname in Sweden and Denmark.[citation needed] We also have a Kjetil Orm in Telemark in 1400- century and Knut Orm in Oslo in the middle of the 16th century, but whether there is any connection between them is uncertain.[citation needed]

The shield in family coat of arms one to Orm is blazoned in this way by herald Hallvard Trætteberg in 1933: «Silver bottom, two intertwined (half) blue worms. " Trætteberg drew the worms with red e, protruding tongues, and he made the worms cut off by giving both a red round end surface at the bottom.[citation needed]

The seal mark of Orm Erikson is unknown. Erik Ormson, Erik Erikson Orm and Eline Eriksdatter Orm used coat of arms as seal marks with two create[disambiguation needed] worms swirling around each other. Anna Eriksdatter Orm used a seal mark with a Lindworm as a weapon figure. We thus do not know whether these coat of arms were used because of the name Orm, as a so-called "Canting arms", or whether the weapon existed first and the name Orm was then taken after figure[disambiguation needed].

Erik Tostason[edit]

Orm Erikson is first mentioned in a document on Vossevangen 29.5.1482.[citation needed] One can interpret the document as if he was the son of Erik Tostason. It is not unreasonable, but the word "father" can also refer to grandfather or father-in-law. Erik Torsteinson was obviously dead at this time. We do not know much about when he lived. In 1463, a payment from an Erik Torsteinson was recorded in Munkeliv Abbey's land register.[citation needed] It may have been the same Erik Torsteinson that is mentioned in the document from 1482, but it is uncertain. Erik Torsteinson seems to be almost invisible in the source material.[citation needed]

Orm Erikson[edit]

Orm Erikson had become gunman[disambiguation needed] between 1490 and 1509.[citation needed] He was executed in 1521.[citation needed] He was married to Astrid Ormsdatter.[citation needed] They had a son Erik Ormson. Asgaut Steinnes believed that they also had a daughter who was married to Ivar at Tokheim. The basis for the hypothesis was a change in 1497. Ivar at Tokheim probably later owned some of the assets that were changed in 1497. Then it is best to introduce a daughter of Orm Erikson who was married to Ivar at Tokheim. It is also possible that some of the properties in the shift were later sold to Ivar at Tokheim.[citation needed]

Erik Ormson Orm to Vatne and Valvatne[edit]

We first meet Erik Ormson on 12 August 1523 when he was granted the farm Tjore in Ryfylke.[citation needed] In 1523-1525 Erik Ormson was also sheriff in Sogn, but will probably be deposed in 1526.[citation needed] In 1529 Erik Ormson tried unsuccessfully to become a lawyer in Stavanger.[citation needed] Erik Ormson is referred to as gunman (nobleman) from 1533.[citation needed] I 1555 Erik Ormson is listed as sheriff - he then had a grant, but without it being stated where it was. }}.

Erik was probably born and raised in Stavanger and is last mentioned in Stavanger in 1554.[citation needed] He was in many court rounds about the inheritance after Magdalena Olavsdatter.[citation needed] It ended in 1557 with a settlement that made Erik Ormson then became the owner of a large estate with the main weight in Hordaland.[citation needed] From 1562 he is titled for the first time as Erik Ormson to Valvatne on Stord.[citation needed] He was probably born in the 1490s and died May 7, 1564 and was buried in Stord main church.[citation needed] He was probably married to Kirstine Torsteinsdatter.[citation needed]

Erik Erikson Orm[edit]

Erik Erikson Orm at Stord was a nobleman and married to Magdalena Kristoffersdatter (Rustung).[citation needed] He was betrothed to Tjore in Ryfylke in 1565.[citation needed]

Anna Eriksdatter Orm[edit]

Anna Eriksdatter Orm married superintendenten in Stavanger Jon Guttormsen.[citation needed]

Anna Eriksdatter Orm was also married to Otte Thomasson Orning.[citation needed]

Eline Eriksdatter Orm[edit]

Eline Eriksdatter Orm married Jon Gauteson to Sveen.[citation needed]
