Professional Pilots of Tomorrow is a non-profit organization based in Brooklyn, New York. It was founded in 2017 by three Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University graduates Marc Cervantes, John Hackworth, and Vesselin Slaveykov,[3] and is registered as a 501(c)(3) organization with tax ID number 81-4504607.[1]

Purpose[edit]

PPOT is a pilot mentorship and networking organization that aims to assist aspiring aviators by providing unbiased and accurate information about available career paths and opportunities in the aviation industry. Its community comprises volunteer pilots of various different backgrounds, who have created a network to support pilots from all walks of life and levels of experience. PPOT's concept is simple: pilots supporting pilots.

Membership[edit]

PPOT's membership comprises over 1,000 members[2] from across the United States, and its mentor pilots come from a range of backgrounds, including regional and legacy airlines, corporate operations, and cargo and Part-135 outfits. These mentors receive official training from other member volunteers, and the service is completely free. Benefits of membership include access to the pilot management portal, various industry-discounts, and most importantly, access to a one-on-one volunteer mentor. Additionally, members can access a database of hundreds of pilots with varying levels of experience who have already agreed to support members of the organization.[4]

History[edit]

PPOT was founded in 2017[1], immediately following many years of a challenging hiring environment in the aviation industry. This was in part due to various major-airline bankruptcies and involuntary furloughs[5] as a result of the events of the attacks on September 11th, 2001, as well as the immediate effects from the change of the mandatory retirement age for part-121 airline pilots from 60 to 65 years of age.[6] After joining the airline industry, the three founders saw a significant need for mentorship in the industry and decided to take action. Since then, the organization has grown year over year, providing unbiased one-on-one mentorship and networking opportunities to its members at no cost to the members.

Industry Partnerships[edit]

Since it's creation, PPOT has created several industry-wide partnerships, including well-known aviation organizations such as Coradine Aviation,[7], EAA [8], and Spitfire Elite Consulting.[9] PPOT continuously works to develop other industry-wide partnerships for the sole purpose of supporting its members.

University Partnerships[edit]

PPOT has various student-led collegiate aviation chapters, including at Auburn University.[10]

Podcasts[edit]

On November 12th, 2019, PPOT was featured on the popular aviation podcast, "Pilot to Pilot," hosted by Justin Siems.[11]
