Palakkode K. Hassan (born in 1970), also known as Kamal Hassan and Hassan Palakkode, is a Malayali writer from Kerala who converted to Hinduism in 2000.[1][2] He has been a contributor to many religious periodicals in India.[1][2]
Biography
Palakkode belongs to Palakkad district, Kerala. He completed a five-year course but did not work as a maulvi (religious scholar).[1][2] He was the first intellectual in the state to change his faith. His adoption of a new name, "Kamal Hassan", is similar to the high-profile conversion of Indian poet Kamala Surayya.[1][2] Hassan embraced Hinduism on 30 March 2000, along with a Christian woman and another Muslim man.[1][2] Organised by the state unit of the Shiv Sena, the ceremony was attended by sanyasis from several ashrams.[1][2] It could not be held in his home village due to a threat made to his life after he announced his decision to embrace Hinduism.[1][2]
