Paris Creek Farms is a South Australian dairy manufacturer based in the Adelaide Hills which creates bio-dynamic and organic dairy products including milk, cheese, yogurt, butter and cream. Paris Creek Farms products are produced and manufactured out of South Australia, and the company is the state's largest organic dairy company.[5] [6]

Formerly known as B-d. Farm Paris Creek, Paris Creek Farms was acquired by ASX-listed company Primary Opinion Limited in 2017.[7] Primary Opinion Limited was renamed to Longtable Group later in 2017. [8]

History[edit]

20th century[edit]

Paris Creek Farms was originally established by German immigrants Ulli and Helmut Spranz, who moved to Australia in 1988. Helmut had a background in government work, while Ulli had a background in graphic design. They had a desire to become farmers and chose Australia to farm after a holiday there in 1983. After completing studies in agriculture, the couple moved to South Australia and purchased 170 acres of land in Paris Creek. The Spranz's converted the land into a biodynamic farming business from their desire to keep dairy products as 'natural' as possible, free from added chemicals, genetic modification, and processes such as UHT treatment.[3] [9]

Since 2000[edit]

In 2016, the factory on site at Paris Creek Farms undertook renovations in order to process products for the growing international market.[10]

In late 2017, the company appointed advisory firm M&A Partners to assess strategic options for their business going forward. Following the review, M&A Partners initiated a sales process to find an appropriate buyer for the company. Longtable Group (formerly Primary Opinion) was identified as a suitable buyer, and they acquired Paris Creek Farms shortly thereafter.[11]

Awards[edit]

Paris Creek Farms' dairy products have received awards over the past 30 years in several dairy competitions in Australia. In 2018, their Norwegian Emmental cheese (commonly known as Swiss Cheese) was the winner of the Australian Cheeseboard Perpetual Trophy at the Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Show, with other products receiving various gold and silver awards in the competition.[12] In the same year, Paris Creek Farms' biodynamically produced Triple Cream Brie was awarded the Cheeselinks Trophy by the Dairy Industry Association of Australia, again taking out multiple gold and silver awards among other entries.[13]

In addition to product awards, the company has also received several accolades recognising their efforts in sustainability and environmentally friendly production. In 2015, Paris Creek Farms won the PACE (Process & Control Engineering) Zenith award, for their use of solar energy and environmental sustainability [14]. The company has also won the Endeavour Awards Environmental Solution of the Year in 2015 as well as the South Australian Food Industry Award for Sustainability in 2014 [15]
