Park Jimin (Hangul: 박지민; born on October 13, 1995).[1] is a South Korean singer, dancer and songwriter. He is the main dancer, lead vocalist and member of South Korean boy-group BTS, managed under Big Hit Entertainment.

Biography[edit]

Park Jimin was born on October 13, 1995, in Busan, South Korea and he has one younger brother[2]. Before his debut with BTS, Jimin studied at the Busan High School of Arts [3] as a top student in the modern dance department. He later auditioned to Big Hit Entertainment in 2011, being the last member to join the group [4]

After his debut, while recording for the New Yang Nam Show on the 23th of February 2017, an old video of Jimin dancing contemporary along with a message from his dance teacher cheering him on and praising his dancing skills were revealed.[5]

Career[edit]

BTS[edit]

Jimin only trained for a year before debuting as a member of BTS on June 13, 2013, on Mnet's M Countdown, at the age of 17, with the track "No More Dream" from their debut album 2 Cool 4 Skool.[6]. Jimin was first credited for contributing to writing lyrics for the song "Fun Boyz" in ''The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1''. He also contributed for writing lyrics for the song "Lie", his first solo song since BTS's debut. Jimin has released, unofficially, a cover of "Mistletoe" by Justin Bieber with fellow BTS bandmate, Jungkook, in which he himself wrote new lyrics in Korean.[7] He also released a cover of Young, Wild and Free, along with fellow bandmates Jungkook and J-Hope for Jungkook's middle school graduation. After his high school graduation, Jimin and his fellow bandmate V released a song called 95 Graduation, feeling sorry for not being able to attend their graduation due to their busy schedule. [8]

During BTS's 'Japan Official FanMeeting Under Cover Mission' in Osaka, Japan, held on August 18, an incident in which Jimin fainted happened, when, according to one fan account, BTS were playing a game called “tension escalator". [9]. After falling on the stage Jimin was transported to Sumitomo Hospital, where the medical staff stated that during the game, he suddenly held his breath for a long time, so that the parasympathetic nerve spiked, causing his balance to collapse and his blood pressure to temporarily go down, so he lost consciousness and fell on the stage. Jimin received treatment and returned to BTS's hotel to recover without any injuries, not coming back for the rest of the fan meeting.

Solo work[edit]

Jimin was featured in GLAMS music video for their title song Party (XXO) on 19th July, 2012.[10]

Jimin's first solo song Lie was released together with BTS's second full length album Wings on October 10, 2016, and it made an impressive debut, being the highest charting Wings solo song, reaching the 3rd spot on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales. [11]. His song was also the highest charting Wings solo song on Melon Music Charts, charting at No.7. [12]. Jimin first performed Lie during KBS's Song Festival Gayo Daejukjae 2016, on December 29, 2016, choreographed by Markus Pe Benito.[13] [14]

Also during KBS's Song Festival Gayo Daejukjae 2016 (December 29, 2016), he collaborated with singer Lee Taemin, performing a remix of Shinee's 1 of 1 and BTS's Blood Sweat and Tears.[15]

On SBS Gayo Daejun 2016 (16th November, 2016), Jimin performed a contemporary dance for the song Pin-Up Girl along with WJSN's Lee Luda and Chengxiao, VIXX's N, Twice's Mina and Momo and Lovelyz's Yein.
