Paul Kalburgi is a British playwright and screenwriter, known for his work in verbatim theatre. He is the author of The Writer's Toolkit: Exercises, Techniques and Ideas for Playwrights and Screenwriters, published by Nick Hern Books, London. Kalburgi lives in New Zealand with his husband and two sons.

Education[edit]

Born in Stockton On Tees, County Durham, Kalburgi attended Grangefield School. He later graduated with distinction from the School of Drama, Film and Media at Regent's University London, London (MA Writing for Screen & Stage), where he was the recipient of the Postgraduate Student Prize. He also studied on the Writers Programme at UCLA.

Career[edit]

Paul is best known for his verbatim drama, In the Tall Grass, which won Best Play in the Dallas–Fort Worth Theatre Critics Forum awards in 2018. In 2010 he produced a celebrity reality series with Welsh television personality, Lauren Harries. The series was broadcast in the UK on Showcase TV and featured a theme tune recorded by The Unconventionals and produced by Kevan Frost. Paul's plays have been performed in London, New York and Dallas. He has produced content for television in the UK and USA across a range of genres. As a screenwriter, he has written docu-dramas and documentaries for American network Reelz and has written episodes of New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street.
