Peet Dullaert
Peet Dullaert (born in The Netherlands) is a fashion designer based in Paris.[1][2]. He founded his independent brand in 2012 at the age of 23 : specialised in Couture, ready-to-wear and accessories, followed by immediate global coverage in acclaimed fashion media ranging from Vogue China[3][4][5] to Vogue Brasil[6] on his first collection.
Career
Dullaert studied at ArtEZ University of the Arts in The Netherlands and graduated with honours in 2012[7]. Still in his studies ; Peet Dullaert won the Triumph Innovation Award[8] in 2010, and interned at Lanvin in 2011 during the Alber Elbaz-era[9][10], where he can be seen assisting Elbaz in Loïc Prigent's 2011 documentary Le Jour d'Avant - Lanvin.
In 2012 Peet Dullaert was the winner of the prestigious Dutch Frans Molenaar Couture Award[11][12][13].
Following the foundation of Peet Dullaert in 2012, the designer reflects in his early years with pioneers in the fashion industry : Pierre Bergé[14][15], and Baroness Hélène de Ludinghausen[16] the former Directrice of Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture, on the past and context of the industry at that time. These conversations aided Dullaert in the creation of his sustainable and responsible production cycle for luxury and his desire for change, which was implemented in 2014, and is continued till this day[17][18]. Dullaert's vision through his line has been described to shake up the world of luxury[2] by rethinking its processes and representation[19][20], and encouraging a shift towards more responsible practices[21]. For his commitment to the oceans and sustainable fashion practices, he has been recognised by Vogue France as one of the designers who are environmentally engaged, and work to make a difference for the oceans.[22]
In 2015, American Vogue praised Dullaert on his efforts to show representation, welcoming women of all ages in his campaign[20].
During these years Peet Dullaert was one of the first designers contributing to redefine the method of ready-to-wear production, after setting up his collections to function on a « see now, order now » basis. Dullaert modernised the process by making the ready-to-wear collections available for immediate sale after the reveal, and produces each piece in-house following each order placed[9][23][24], instead of the ready-to-wear industry's traditional production line set-up, taking factories six months to deliver.
In 2016 Peet Dullaert was awarded the Dutch nomination for the International Woolmark Prize[9][25][26], and represented The Netherlands in the 2017 competition held in Milan, Italy[27].
Peet Dullaert aims to reflect an eminently poetic universe[28][2], marked by freedom of movement for today's lifestyle according to Vogue Italia[29]. Affirming a contemporary vision that combines the impact of prestigious fashion houses with robust social commitments.[2][23] Veteran fashion publicist Albert Ayal was quoted in The Zoe Report "Peet Dullaert's accessories look like something you would see in a museum.."[24]
People
Peet Dullaert's collections have been seen worn by Mouna Ayoub[30] (who owns the largest private Couture collection in the world), Kendal Jenner[31][32], Netflix's Bling Empire Jaime Xie[33], Katy Perry[34], and Rihanna,[35] who was seen wearing Dullaert's signature crinkled dresses[36]
In 2013 Peet Dullaert released the Muses With Extraordinary Lives[37] project, honouring women from around the world who share their stories and advocacy. Muses of the fashion industry such as Zuleika Ponsen[38], Linda Spierings[38], Sylvia Gobbel[39], Amanda Lear[40], and Pat Cleveland[39] are featured sharing their vision through interviews, and appear in the designer's clothing.
