Photovoltaic and solar engineering is an engineering discipline that deals with the use of solar energy devices, modules and systems to convert sunlight into electricity. Governments, corporations and people across the globe are utilizing a combination this option to reduce the carbon footprint and live in more sustainable ways.
This engineering involves the physics and engineering of solar cells, photovoltaic systems and solar thermal devices, project management and technology assessment. Solar engineers prepare basic technical projects for the authorization of the installations before the official public bodies. These projects include the photovoltaic plant, the overhead or underground transmission lines and the lifting substation for the evacuation of the energy generated by the plant.
The International Energy Agency contemplates solar power to become the world's major font of electricity by 2050, with solar photovoltaics and concentrated solar thermal bestowing 16% and 11% to the global demand, respectively.[1]
