Poso Pesisir (also called Northern dialect, Coastal Poso, or Pantai Bare'e; Dutch: Strand-Bare'e) is a dialect of the Pamona language spoken in Poso Regency along the south coast of Tomini Bay.[2]

Language features

This language uses negation bare'e, characterized by a central dialect influenced by Parigi dialect[lower-alpha 1], and also for "losing" many of Pamona's words and expressions as spoken in the hinterlands. A linguist from Netherlands, Nicolaus Adriani, stated that:

Adriani then said that the Pamona people themselves did not distinguish between these two dialects, just saying that people in the interior understand – in an unknown way – that their speech is different from the Pamona people who live on the coast. Adriani refers to the coastal dialect as Strand-Bare'e, which Sneddon (1983) refers to as the "Pamona Beach Dialect". Kennedy (1935) referred to this dialect as the "Poso-Tojo dialect" if indeed this variety deserves the status of being a dialect[4].

Notes

  1. Parigi is a dialect in Kaili language which is generally spoken along the coast of Tomini Bay in the west of the Pamona area.
