The Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme is an Indian scholarship programme for students domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, administered by the All India Council for Technical Education.[1] It provides for up to 5000 suitable students of the Union Territories to receive support covering fees and living expenses while studying in approved government colleges elsewhere in India.[citation needed]

History[edit]

The Indian central government and government of Jammu and Kashmir with AICTE launched this scholarship in 2011 which came into force from 2012. Omar Abdullah was the Chief minister when prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme was launched for the students of Jammu and Kashmir. Under the ministry of National Conference and Government rule from 8 January 2015 to 1 March 2015  The judicial assembly of Jammu and Kashmir administration in 2012 gave the green signal to the scheme which was applied with the order of Jammu and Kashmir High Court for the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh (Union territory ).

Application process[edit]

The application process involves both online application form and document verification followed by the following sequence of events.

  1. Choice filling from candidate's login
  2. Announcement of merit list on AICTE website
  3. Online counselling by AICTE
  4. Uploading joining report and reporting to allotted institutions.
  5. Joining report/Aadhar/Bank verification by institute
  6. Disbursal of Scholarship to candidate

Selection criteria[edit]

The Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme students are judged on the basis of following criteria as implemented by the All India Council of Technical Education.

  • If the student has a dream to study outside Jammu and Kashmir
  • If the student has passed 12th from any board in Jammu and Kashmir .
  • Completed Diploma for 3 years from J&K Polytechnic, the student is eligible for the lateral entry under this scheme .
  • Salary(Family Income) not greater than 8Lakh per annum.

Terms of the Scholarship[edit]

The scholarship covers full tuition fees, college fees, an annual stipend. The scholarship has been valued up to 3 lakhs. Upon acceptance, scholars are bound by a set of regulations, decided by the AICTE and PMSSS committee.

The students shall fulfill the following Terms as per All India Council of Technical Education.

  • Enrolled online within the stipulated date.
  • Join online counselling on the declared dates.
  • Authentication of the document in the facilitation building.
  • Join the allotted organization and upload the joining report within the specified date.

Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme Community[edit]

The All India Council of Technical Education has implemented a grievance portal and has launched various internet facilitation centers for students. PMSSS students discuss their doubts and queries on Prime Minister's special scholarship scheme discussion forum.

PMSSS community discussion forum was established on 24 Feb 2021. All India Council of Technical Education release their PMSSS brochure[2] every year .
