Niall Comas (born May 14, 1997), better known as Pyrocynical, is an English-born YouTube commentator, video essayist and occasional Let's Player. He started off creating Montage Parodies but has since transitioned into a commentary channel. As of October 2021, his channel has over 1.3 billion total video views and 4.5 million subscribers.[1]
YouTube Career
2014
On March 30, 2014, Comas uploaded his first video, titled "How to Pizza", an edited clip of a Breaking Bad episode. As of November 2021, the video has over 900,000 views.[2] On May 26, Comas uploaded a video titled "MLG Teletubbies" which was, until October 2021, his most viewed video, with over 14 million views. Niall has repeatedly said how he regrets making this video, and refuses to make any more content similar to it.
2015
In 2015, Comas shifted his content type to gaming commentaries and occasional Let's Plays. It was this year when Comas first hit 250,000 subscribers, which he celebrated with a video thanking his audience. On 21 March 2015, Comas uploaded a video titled "250,000 subscribers".[3] That video featured Comas talking about how his montage videos were being copyright struck and the direction his channel would be heading. In 2018, the video reemerged as an inside joke on Comas' channel, as he had recently hit 2.5 million subscribers, or a quarter of 10 million subscribers. The part of the video where a character jumps into the water and then cuts to Comas thanking his viewers while playing a video game even became an internet meme. Usually, after a character jumps off into the water, it cuts to the scene where Comas thanks the viewers.[4]
2016
On June 7th, 2016, Comas reached 1 million subscribers.
In a video titled "who I'm voting for president", Comas showed his face for the first time. [5] The video is a parody of YouTuber Casey Neistat's video on his support for Hillary Clinton. Many jokingly said that Comas looked like a "cute little lesbian", a joke that continues to this day.
On August 5th, 2016, Comas made a YouTube channel named "PyroLIVE"[6] but didn't upload a video on it until October 28th, 2021.
2017
In 2017, Comas stepped away from games and became a comedic commentator. On 3 June 2017, Comas created a new series on his channel called ASOT, which is short for A Series Of Tubes. The first video in this series is titled "DURV BANNED FROM YOUTUBE (ASOT)". [7] In the ASOT series videos, Comas talks about different topics and trends and gives his opinion in a satirical way.
On September 17th, 2017, Comas posted a video called "Petscop: The Best Game You've Never Played", where he reviews a fake creepypasta video game called Petscop[8][9], this video would go on to be one of his highest viewed videos with over 12 million views.
2018
In 2018, Comas reached 2.5 million subscribers, a 1.5 million increase from the beginning of 2017.
On 17 February 2018, Comas made a video addressing his third time being suspended on Twitter, he said that he doesn't know why he got suspended but he is not allowed to create a Twitter account anymore.[10] Although this is the most recent video Comas made addressing his Twitter suspension, on 29 June 2018, after Comas made another Twitter account in March, he tweeted on his account @PyrocynicalTV that his other account @Pyrocynical is suspended again. [11]
After sending Kanye West a meme of Kanye's edited face on Twitter, Kanye surprisingly followed his Twitter account. Comas immediately asked Kanye to play Fortnite with him, parodying famous Twitch streamer Ninja playing that video game with Drake.[12] Although Kanye is currently following less than 200 Twitter accounts, Comas later addressed in his video that "Kanye is just following random accounts at this point". [13]
2019
By the end of 2019, Comas reached 3.8 million subscribers, a 1.3 million increase from 2018.
On September 4th, 2019, Comas posted a video titled "I paid $2000 to meet morgz" where he attempts to meet the popular YouTuber Morgan Hudson, more commonly known as Morgz.
2020
On May 14, 2020, Comas made a video titled "fat cry 3," a review of the third game in the Far Cry video game series, this would go on to be his most popular video, with over 17 million views, making it his most viewed video.
Comas was accused of grooming a 15-year-old[14], which led to a month-long break between uploads. Comas partook in sexual role-play over the internet with Ivory (the accuser) but was not aware of his age at the time.[15] Comas states that it never went past "Weird fantasy garbage." He also states that he shouldn't have continued the role-play after he learned his age.[16]
2021
In 2021, Comas reached 4.6 million subscribers.
Comas posted a video on Feb 12, 2021, titled "Girls can't be Gamers" where he mocks a YouTube video by the popular YouTuber Dhar Mann, one of which Mann collaborates with youtuber sssniperwolf.
Comas posted a video titled "The best (and worst) show you haven't seen" on November 5th, 2021. The video was 7 hours, 41 minutes, and 8 seconds. Making it, by far his longest video ever. The video was about the show "Utopia" and was posted after a 4-month break. The video took 7 years to make.[17]
Comas started posting on his second channel "PyroLIVE" where he posts Gaming videos and edited versions of his Twitch livestreams.[18] He first uploaded on the channel 62 months and 23 days after the channel was created, on October 28th, 2021, with a video titled "I made the worst PC"[19]
Personal life
Comas lives in England, in his own house.[20] Niall had a pet bunny named Blue in 2018. He has made videos with close friends of his including Kwite, Dolan Dark, Elvis The Alien, Squizzy, and Memeulous. Most of Comas' friends lie within the commentary and humor subjects, which is similar to Comas' style of content.
Allegations of child grooming
On October 19th, 2020, Comas was accused of grooming over Discord with a 15-year-old boy, when he was 19 back in 2016. However, he was unaware of Ivory's (the accuser) age at the time, and only learned Ivory's age when Ivory was 16.[21] He lost around 90,000 subscribers from this accusation.
A Twitter user named ivory tweeted "tw // grooming Pyrocynical groomed me, and i have screenshots to prove it. I've been sitting here thinking about this shit nonstop, being angry, confused, and sad that I've had to accept this since i was 15, but i never said anything cus i felt powerless."[22][23]
Comas was unaware of Ivory's age at the time this happened.[24][25]
Comas's response to the allegations
Comas decided to make a Reddit post on his Subreddit, addressing these allegations, which was followed up by a YouTube video titled "My Response" which also addressed the accusations.
Comas states that it was "Just fantasy furry garbage" and he would do it with whoever would reciprocate, he states he "Could have been doing it with a 90-year-old cave troll and it wouldn't have made a difference.", he continues "It was role-play after all, it was just pretending."[26] Comas and Ivory were still talking to each other on Discord (in a non-sexual way) up until September 2020, only a month before Ivory accused Comas of grooming.[27]
Comas apologized to Ivory over Discord “It was stupid of me to message people about this furry stuff without taking into account the influence of my platform.”[28] Ivory has responded but hasn't added much.[29] both Ivory and Comas have moved on from the situation.
Humor
- In 2015, Comas posted a video where he celebrates 250,000 subscribers, jumping into a lake in the game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive while the song "Hello" by OMFG played, as Comas says "So guys we did it, we reached a quarter of a million subscribers." The meme became popular in 2018. The meme usually was edited to replace the part where he jumps into the lake with a video of something falling.[30]
- In 2016, Comas posted a video where he showed his face for the first time, many jokingly commented on the video that he looked like a "cute little lesbian", a joke that is still relevant today.[31]
