QOVES Studio is a telemedicine imaging consulting service provider that further evaluates beauty, cosmetics, and surgery.[1][2][3]  In addition to plastic surgery and non-surgical consultations, it also produces artificial intelligence software that can be used to assess facial concerns.[4][5]

History[edit]

It was founded in 2019 as an initiative to educate the public about Photoshop manipulation and troubling trends.[1] In 2020, they adapted AI and plastic surgery consultations, noticing a gap in the market.  Your Facial Aesthetics Report analyzes the patient's face from top to bottom and provides a 24-page report to guide cosmetic or non-invasive surgery.[6][7] Tenants central beauty in Aesthetic Report inspired by the central thesis provided by Gilian Rhodes on Evolutionary psychology of beauty.[8][9]

Hassan told MIT Technology Review in a podcast that QOVES was created in response to the 1997 science fiction film Gattaca, where a person can determine their destiny through determinism and view surgery as a more positive tool.[10][11]

Criticism[edit]

In 2020, its facial assessment tool has come under fire for promoting Eurocentric beauty standards in its assessment of cosmetic flaws.[12][13]

Critics have claimed that mixing beauty and artificial intelligence only promotes existing prejudices in our society that are reflected in a previously untapped beauty sector.[14]

The use of "scientific" beauty standards is still the subject of strong controversy, as many still believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that QOVES is evaluating beauty by artistic rather than objective scientific standards.[15]

In 2021, QOVES AU also partnered with Leo Olsen Guillot to create the QOVES Agency.[16][17]
