Qatium App is a commercial and open collaborative water management platform created by Qatium. This platform has as its goal to provide operational and real-time modelling to all water management organisations and professionals around the world. Qatium has a roadmap to cover the whole water management sector including water supply networks, storm water networks and wastewater networks.
Qatium App is based on a variant of the EPANET 2.2 engine, epanet-js.
The Qatium App is used in the water industry, by water operators, leak technicians, modellers, consultants and other professionals.
History
The Qatium App was launched in Amsterdam, at Aquatech, on the 2nd of November 2021. The launch was published live on youtube, starring Qatium's advisors: Will Sarni (founder and CEO of Water Foundry), Gavin Van Tonder (Executive Director, Water Sector at NEOM), Gigi Karmous-Edwards (Founder and co-chair of the SWAN Digital Twin for H2O Work Group), Luke Butler (Director of Innovation at Qatium) and Damien Acheson (Chief Marketing Officer at Qatium).
Qatium onboarded 150 Water Utilities.[1] on its platform prior to the official launch.
Values
By relying on three key principles - Simplicity, Openness and Accessibility[2] - the Qatium app aims to be a platform that everyone can adopt easily.
Simplicity:: Qatium App strives to be as easy to use as possible.
Openness:: Qatium App’s roadmap is public for everyone to see. Qatium invites any water enthusiast to contribute by voting for features and submitting new ideas to the roadmap – effectively prioritising Qatium App's roadmap.
Accessibility:: Water is a right for every human on the planet. By making its platform a freemium model, Qatium wants to allow any water management organisation to have access to the required tools to better serve its population.
Features
What-If Scenarios
Qatium App is a cloud platform allowing the user to run what-if scenarios of their water network directly in their browser.
Demand Spike
Qatium coined the phrase Demand Spike[3] by associating it to one of its key features on the what-if scenario front. This feature allows users to perform a series of scenarios including: fire flow analyses[4], unidirectional flushing[5], new development scenarios and criticality analysis[6]
In effect, this feature allows the user to apply a specific demand to any junction in the network – hence the multitude of applications.
Watermain Shutdown
Qatium followed the steps initiated by Luke Butler and his shutdown tool. Watermain shutdown[7] helps operators understand how to isolate parts of the water supply network and what happens in the network then. It allows the user to visualise directly on the map the area affected by the isolation and how to reduce it.
Live Data
Qatium allows live data to be integrated to its platform through its Ingest API[8], publishing its API documentation publicly on its Help Center.
Model Accuracy & Deviation
The platform displays a model accuracy grade and a model deviation for each sensor type implemented (flow, pressure and tank level). The accuracy grade is calculated from the different model deviation values, the higher the value the more accurate the model is. The deviation values are calculated as a difference between the simulated and observed value, represented in percentages and in the model unit value.
This accuracy grade is directly correlated to the confidence of the operators in the model and the what-if scenarios created from it.
Real-time modelling
The platform takes into account the live data sent through the Ingest API as a boundary condition for the simulation. This allows a higher accuracy of the model.
Help Center
Qatium App has a detailed Help Center available in English and Spanish, that includes videos, animations and a Getting Started tutorial.
Compatibility
Qatium App can run in any browser, although the best performances have been accomplished using Google Chrome.
Security
As with every cloud based platform, Qatium has a security page on its website dedicated to security.
Qatium services are hosted in an AWS environment in Ireland as it is bound by GDPR rules.
