He was born in Al-Kadhimiya in Baghdad where he studied Al-Muqad’dim’maat and Al-Sotooh (the first two levels of Hawza) under various scholars. He studied higher degree research under his brother Muhammad Ridha and the cleric Muhammad Kadhim Shirazi. Al-Kadhimi followed in his father’s footsteps, after he died in 1351 AH, and became an imam. He is a poet and had published many of his poems including Nahj al-Balagha, Tarikh Al-Kadhimiya, and Sulh Al-Hassan. He died of illness in Beirut and was buried in Al-Najaf, Iraq.[1][2][3][4]

Life and education[edit]

Radhi bin Abdul-Hussein bin Muhammad Hassan Al Yasin Al-Kadhimi was born in Al-Kadhimiya in 03/01/1314 AH (13/07/1896). His mother was the daughter of sir Hadi Al-Sadr and the sister of Hassan Al-Sadr. He was raised in a household that is passionate about science and literature and studied under various scholars. He studied syntax, logic, and eloquence under the scholars of Al-Kadhimiya including Radhi Muhammad Al-Kadhim and Ahmad Al-Kishwan and studied Principles of Islamic jurisprudence under Muhammad Ridha Al-Zynjani, his cousin Muhammad Mahdi Al-Sadr, his brother Muhammad Ridha Al Yasin and his uncle Hassan Al-Sadr. Then, he completed his Al-Kharij Research (the final level of Hawza) under Muhammed Kadhim Shirazi. Having been qualified to perform Ijtihad, Al-kadhimi surpassed Muhammad Ridha Al Yasin and Abu l-Hasan al-Isfahani with a document dated 1356 AH (1937). He got an approval from Hassan Al-Sadr, Ahmad Baqir al-Bihbahani, and Abd Al-Husayn Sharaf Al-Din. After his father died in 1351 AH, Al-Kadhimi followed in his footsteps and became an imam. He had, also, performed other legal duties.[5]

He had three children: Azzedine (1913-1952) and Muhammad Ali Muhammad Mufeed (?-2016) who both had received certificates of higher education in different fields of science and became professors in their subjects.

Death[edit]

His house burnt down in 1370 AH (1951) but he found a few of his writings intact. The writings that were burnt include his books Awj Al-Balagha and Tarikh Al-Kadhimiya. Fortunately, the scholar was able to enter his burnt house and rescue the draft of his Sulh Al-Hassan book.

He suffered from an illness in his last years and travelled to Lebanon for treatment but passed away there on Friday 15/11/1371 AH (05/08/1952). He was carried to Al-Najaf, Iraq, and was buried there. The funeral ceremonies were performed in and out of Iraq and many of the scholars and poets had felt sorry to hear about the sad news.
