Yassin Al-Nasser (Arabic: ياسين النصير) was born in Al-Qurna, Basra Governorate, southern Iraq in 1940 AD, and he is known to have numerous literary, cultural and artistic interests, and having prolific production in writing, theater criticism, poetry, composition, and finally cinema. He moved to Baghdad in the early seventies of the twentieth century to begin his critical project with a book co-authored with critic Fadel Thamer. The title "Iraqi Stories" in 1971 AD.

Al-Nasser worked in journalism and education, and participated in writing and acting in some shows, but he never abandoned the criticism. In the mid-eighties, and until the beginning of the nineties, he worked as a taxi driver hiding from the authorities, and fleeing from the pressures that aimed - as he said - to weaken him and make him one of the loyal to the regimen, and Al-Nasser asserts that he experienced internal migration before he lived external migration. He lived for more than four years in Amman, then moved to Syria, after that returned to Amman in 1996 AD, then he moved to Netherlands as a refugee to overcome the difficulties of his bad living condition in his place by writing and permanent activities.[1][2] The British Encyclopedia relied on his writings that introduce contemporary Iraqi theater, and his study about the spatial structure of the poem was translated into English.[3] Some of his studies about theater have also been translated into: English, German, Russian, Hungarian, Dutch.[1]

  • President of the Akad Foundation for Culture, Arts and Publishing in the Netherlands, which was founded in 2000 and still presents its annual programs.[1]
  • President of the Iraqi Documentary Film Festival in the Netherlands.[1]
