Rafael Rafig oghlu Bayramov (Azerbaijani: Rəfael Rafiq oğlu Bayramov; born 23 February 1982) is an Azerbaijani scientist, neurosurgeon, and neuroradiologist. He is a doctor of philosophy in medical sciences.[1] For the first time in Azerbaijan, he performed the operation of placement of PIPELINE and ACANDIS DERIVO stents, which change the direction of flow in intracranial vessels, and for the first time in Azerbaijan, he performed the operation of endovascular embolization of the malformation of the vein of Galen, a congenital cerebral vascular malformation of a 2-day-old child. He also used ONYX for the embolization of arteriovenous malformations for the first time in Azerbaijan and performed the thromextraction procedure for the first time in Azerbaijan.
Early life and education[edit]
Rafael Bayramov was born on February 23, 1982, in Sumgait city. He received his first education in school No. 33 in 1989–1999 in Sumgait city. In 1999, he was admitted to the medical faculty of the Moscow Medical Academy named after I.M. Sechenov with the "State Line" program, which was created at the initiative of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, and after graduating in 2005, he began an internship at the department of surgery of the same university. In 2006–2008, he studied residency at the Department of Neurosurgery of the Russian Academy of Post-Diploma Medical Education, and later, within the framework of the "State Program" approved by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in 2008 - 2011, he continued his education in neurosurgery at the Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Neurosurgery named after A.L. Polenov. On November 22, 2011, he received the scientific degree of candidate of medical sciences.[2][3]
In February–May 2012, he completed a course at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of the Novosibirsk State Medical University and received the specialty "X-ray endovascular treatment and diagnostics".
He is married and has 2 children.
Career[edit]
Rafael Bayramov has been working as a freelancer since 2008. From February 2012, he continued to work as a doctor-neurosurgeon at the Republican Treatment Diagnostic Center. After holding that position until April 2014, he continued his work at the Central Oil Workers Hospital, and frrom January 2015 to November 2019, he worked as a neurosurgeon at the Republican Neurosurgery Hospital, and until December 2022 at the Baku Health Center.[2]
Currently, since January 2023, he is the head of the Children's Neurosurgery Department at the Neurosurgery Hospital, and also lectures on neurology and neurosurgery at the Baku branch of the First Moscow State Medical University named after Sechenov.
For the first time in Azerbaijan, he performed the operation of placement of PIPELINE and ACANDIS DERIVO stents, which change the direction of the flow in intracranial vessels, and the first in Azerbaijan the operation of endovascular embolization of the malformation of the vein of Galen, a congenital cerebral vascular malformation of a 2-day-old child.[4]

Scientific career[edit]
Rafael Bayramov devoted his scientific activity mainly to the study of arteriovenous malformations (AVM) and the search for optimal tactics of their surgical treatment. He is the author of a study aimed at finding the optimal method of intravenous treatment of patients with Spetzler-Martin grade IV and V AVMs based on the study of angioarchitectonics, the clinical course of the disease between the stages of endovascular interventions, and the assessment of blood circulation. He also conducted research on work capacity, patient quality of life, and possible causes of AVM revascularization. He is also the co-author of the book "Лечение болыхы с АВМ IV и V градацый по Spetzler-Martin".[5]
