Raft (3D Printing)
What is a Raft[edit]
A raft is basically a platform underneath a print. It helps balance the print and prevent warping, mainly when printing using ABS plastic.
When to Use a Raft[edit]
Warping[edit]
Some 3D Printing materials, such as ABS are prone to warping issues.[3][4][5]
Poor Bed Adhesion[edit]
Rafts increase the surface area of a print with a mesh surface, which increases bed adhesion.[3][4][5]
Small Legs[edit]
Adding a raft to prints with tiny features at their base will help them to carry the load of the print.[3][4]
Pros & Cons[edit]
This section contains a pro and con list, which is sometimes inappropriate. (5 July 2020) |
Pros[edit]
Cons[edit]
- You might break your print when removing the raft[7]
- Higher filament usage[3][4]
- Rough finish on the underside of a print[7]
- It is tedious, and possibly dangerous to remove the raft[3][4][8]
