Mr. Alok Chandra Deb, who was born in Dehradun in 1898, graduated from Calcutta University with a master's in literature before beginning his career as a teacher at Col Brown's School and the Gurkha Military Academy.[7][8][9] His reading of English, Urdu, and Bengali literature as well as his friendship with the renowned lawyer and composer Atul Prasad Sen in Lucknow stoked his nationalism. His time as a teacher left him unsatisfied, not just with the curriculum but also with how English-run schools handled Indian kids.
